I just got another member asking me this question again today, "Is SHMC an illegal pyramid scheme?".
But after she called me on the hotline, I answered her questions and everything is fine.
Ladies & Gentlemen, I must have answered this question 2,000,000 times at least in my almost 10 years doing MLM(Multi-level marketing) with Nuskin Enterprises since year 2000 when Singapore legalized Multi-Level Marketing or Network Marketing or what is commonly referred to as Direct Selling.
However I am not surprised still, when people still ask me this question now after 9 years of legalized MLM/Direct Selling in Singapore.
According to Singapore and International Direct Selling laws, it defines clearly what is a pyramid scheme and the 4 clear characteristics to look out for in an illegal pyramid scheme.
1) There is usually no product. You are just paying money to join a scheme to make more money from recruiting others, like a money game. First appearing in Russia, it's known as a PONZI scheme. Be aware if they say you can make money without working or guarantees you ridiculously high rates of return on your investment without you having to do any work.
2) If there is a product, the product or service is overly marked up. Example, you obviously can prove that the "magic healing" magnetic bedsheet is only worth S$50 to manufacture, but you are paying S$10,000 for it? It's ridiculously marked up 2000%.
3) There is no refund policy or money back guarantee. In the Consumer act in most countries, you must have at least 7 days or more 100% money guarantee to protect the consumer.
4) Usually in a pyramid scheme, the first one who joins on top makes all the money, while the people who join last will never ever be able to make more money than those on top. Example, if a company promises to pay you infinite levels of commissions, you can work out the mathematics to know that the company is paying you more than what they are making, which inevitably means they will go bankrupt and close down some day. It's just a matter of time and how long they can sustain the con.
